Well,
I finally finished it! Real Marriage by Mark and Grace Driscoll.
As a single person,
hopefully to one day be married, I always appreciate a book on
marriage (I'll need as much wisdom as I can get!). In sharing their
story of brokenness, I appreciate how Mark and Grace seek to
encourage others, and challenge them to make healthy, God-glorifying
choices. I especially value their discussion on friendship, both from
a man and a woman's perspective. Grace challenges women to examine
any preconceived notions they may have about submission, while Mark
frankly speaks to men about their responsibilities as men. In an
increasingly egalitarian society, they speak truth our culture needs
to hear.
The book concludes with
a chapter entitled Reverse-Engineering Your Life and Marriage,
issuing a much needed call to married couples to be proactive about
making changes.
The
book has certainly sparked a significant amount of controversy, and
since I don't have a degree in theology, I encourage you to read this
review,
by Denny Burk as well.
